Bear Dance Hemp Company is an independent cannabis store and community hub located in Roanoke, VA. We are dedicated to educating our customers while offering a carefully curated selection of high-quality, locally-sourced cannabis products. From edibles and extracts to THC-A and CBD flower, we pride ourselves on delivering safe, tested, and trusted goods. In addition to our cannabis offerings, we also showcase handmade products from local artisans, fostering a strong connection with our community.

Story

Two passionate individuals founded Bear Dance Hemp Company in October 2019. Since then, they have grown from managing a single local hemp brand and a handful of products to almost 100 hemp products from half a dozen brands, most of which are local.

Quality Assurance: Local, Safe & Tested!

Nearly all of our products are grown and processed within a 2-hour radius of our location. If we can’t personally visit the farm or lab, we don’t carry it—simple as that! To ensure the integrity of our products, we independently test everything on our shelves, going beyond the test results provided by our processors. When it comes to quality, we don’t compromise!

We believe that it’s impossible to separate our evolving cannabis industry from the history of cannabis prohibition and the disproportionate effects it has had on BIPOC (black, Indigenous, and people of color).

Cannabis is for everyone — our store is a politics-free zone — However, we believe that legalization and structural racism are human rights issues, not political issues.

The corporate medical industry is set on establishing an oligopoly in limited markets, restricting access and choice for the people that need it most. If the barrier to enter the recreational market as a business is too high, reparations will never be made, there will be no inclusivity, people will continue to be taken advantage of, and we won't get better.

We are committed to advocating for an OPEN, regulated market in which small businesses are allowed to compete and the long-term social effects of prohibition may be addressed.

Our Team

Chris (he/him) is a musician, event-planner, and marketing aficionado with over a decade of experience in throwing events and managing music bookings for venues. He is known by his stage name DJ Pyrite and has always been passionate about mental health, neuroscience, and natural remedies. Chris spends his days at the shop reading scientific studies and new legislation regarding the cannabis industry, and his free time keeping up with the latest in streetwear and holding full conversations with his talkative husky, Marley (named after Bob, not the sad movie).

Sarah (she/her) is a self-taught freelance graphic designer and photographer who offers a full range of creative services for small businesses through her company, Gray Matters. Her diligent attention to detail keeps all the wheels turning at Bear Dance on a daily basis. Sarah uses her creative skills to help make navigating the hemp industry and its products easier for customers. When she's not at the shop or doing creative work, she enjoys playing the piano, gardening, caring for her houseplants, keeping up with motorsports, and looking for more cats to befriend.
